In our group we had to decide on three final ideas for the song we will choose to use to produce our music video to. We had to find a song with meaningful lyrics that we would be able to create a interesting storyline as well as show off some of our creative skills in filming.
This song is one by quite a large artist now, but she started off as a small artist like most do. This is not one of the songs she has released yet so it doesn’t have a video to it so it would be suitable for us to use, the lyrics also have some meanings and would give us an easy baseline for working on to create a narrative/performance based video. The song is quite easy going and is one of my favourites as it is easy to relate to, so a lot of young people would enjoy it. The lyrics gave me the idea of a girl and boy in love, but she has some doubts about their relationship so she questions everything; my vision being that the beginning scene and the end would be the same. A birds eye shot of the couple lying in bed together, with at the end her climbing back into the bed to signify that she still likes the relationship and her fears of it failing are over.
The second song I listened to and thought would be quite a good choice was Brand New’s Sowing Season. This song is very different to my first one, but I chose a completely different one so my group would have a wider variety to pick from rather than just one genre of music. For this one I pictured one main character that had some sort of alcohol or drug abuse problem reaching the end of his tether and realising that he has made some bad decisions, during this I imagined having flash back scenes to show how his life used to be when he was happy with his friends and family.
The third choice I had to make I settled on Taylor Swift’s song Forever and Always. This is about a teenage love story and obviously many teenagers or young adults would feel they are able to relate this as they may have felt like they were in a similar situation. I could see this storyline being one of a young teenage girl with her first love, showing close ups of them smiling into each other’s eyes and holding hands to show they are in love then something happening with him and another girl so she feels deserted and heartbroken. A good idea for this would be an extreme close up of a tear rolling down her cheek. She becomes obsessed with checking his answer phone when he doesn’t answer and checking his facebook page a lot even when with friends. Eventually I would have her putting everything that reminds her of him into a box and putting it away in the back of her wardrobe turning round smiling to show that she has got over it and she will move on.
