2nd Idea For Inside

I reversed the effect of the gradient so it went the other way around. I found this looked much better as the picture was quite dark so it merges in well. This will be the idea we put into the actual CD size and use as our final idea. 

Digi Pack Idea

This is an option for the inside of out digi pack. The right hand side will be covered up with the CD anyway so it doesn't need to be fancy as the main attraction will be the actual design on the CD. This makes it less boring when the CD has been removed for listening. 

Inside Image

This image was taken by us outside of the gig we filmed the band at. They are looking quite casual here and with the lead singer standing at the front it shows his importance. As you can see this is where the image of the skull came from as when taking photos one of the members was wearing it.

This image has been edited to be black and white. It makes it looks more powerful and also made it possible to erase the litter that was in the bottom right hand corner to make the photo look more professional. The colours fit with the rest of the idea's for the idea pack, following on with the colour scheme; it also follows on nicely with the genre of the band. It reflects their dark sound and continues with the art-Deco theme we were aiming for in our Digi Pack. 

CD design idea

If I was to use this CD cover idea I would have to go around the entire skull on paint to make it look less pixilated as it has become like this from me stretching the image.The whole in the CD will fit where the nose is so still makes sense to the image. This image is suitable as it is a signature image of The Fallen's and people will
 immediately recognise it.

Back Cover Idea

This was an idea for the back cover of our digi pack. We thought it would be a good idea to use the guitarists t-shirt that he wears a lot on our digi pack as it looks unique but also very effective.
The squiggly lines on the arm of the person is the guitarists tattoo that when edited as Emily did it came our very retro and in a very different art deco way. We all agreed that just this little splash of colour was very effective. 
The tattoo would be the eye-catching part of the back. 
We also tried out different colours on the black background using only colours that we picked out from the tattoo so it matched.
We all liked the idea of adding colour to the back and not having the text in white as it is unique and very different to the other rock bands digi packs that are on the market. It is original and contemporary. By making our own style means the band will be recognised for there uniqueness.

Failed Photo's

We attempted to make an outline of each band member to give an art-deco effect, however it did not work out how we planned. Emily used the 'magic wand' tool to erase most of the brick background so ended up with a white and brick effect, however this resulted in some of the band members body being erased too.

This image above has been erased to get a smoother background but it doesn't look processional, so Emily chose to have it made so it was just an outline so looked like an art deco effect.

It was too hard to visualise, so I used the 'Fill tool' and made it more visible with the contrast of white and black. This is the finished effect and as you can see, it does not compliment the band member's outline at all. We will not be using this image for the digi pack.

 

Front Cover Idea's

This idea for the cover is very simple with the band name in large in the centre with all the band members faces facing towards it. The album name is clear underneath the title to avoid confusion. This would be in black and white; perhaps with 'starting out' in a slightly different colour to attract attention. Where the faces are looking in it would be slightly faded so its like they are one.

 The second idea is also quite simple with the band walking away from the camera in the image and a tree with falling leaves. This would be in colour, but we would darken the sky to make it fit our genre better. We would put the album title just about the band name so it was like they were walking on it.

Back Covers

This album covers features the silhouette of a man with a hat on on  simple brown background with lines on. The black of the silhouette makes it easy to use white for the writing as adds a sense of mystery. 

Michael Buble is an iconic artist in the way he is internationally known and has an extremely large and varied fan base. As he is a man on his own it works here to have a photo of him on the back cover too, although this look is good with the text in a gentle colour sitting on him this wouldn't work so well for our band; we need harsher colours to suit the genre and not such a smiling picture.

This Album cover is a women's, Katy Perry so we wouldn't have one like this, but I wanted to see what other large artists do. This one suits the music and is very girly and fluffy. She has used candy as all the O's to make it more fun. Still it is quite simple.

You can tell this cover is only semi professional by the rough writing that isn't very clear as it's stretched. This is still simple and only has one picture on it that isn't complex so doesn't distract from the music.

This is a relatively new artist on the market but she has made it very big in the music industry. She has a very simple back cover, as does another album of hers. This simple look works well and doesn't confuse the image of the band with the music. It makes it seem like the music is the most important thing and this is what I liked about these.

This is from a band 'Greenday' who are more towards our genre and again they have a very simple back cover. We will go with the simple look I think as it seems to be popular successful and easy to make look professional. This band have gone for the use of their signature colours, which makes it look better. We will have to think of colours to use throughout our digi pack. 

Cover Ideas

I researched on the internet some album covers that other bands used in the past to get some inspiration for our own one.
Michael Jackson, known as the 'King Of Pop' has had many eye-catching dramatic album covers and digi packs. This is just one of many of them, this is simply a picture with other pictures in the outline of his body. This may be a little to advanced for our software at school but the idea of a simple image on a plain background really works well. Also the back where the song names are displayed is simple and I like the image cutting through the text.  

Font Choices

We had to select a font that would fit the genre of our band and also look eyecatching so people will take notice of it when they see it. For this we used a free font genorator online so we could look at a lot. We ended up with these ones to chose from.

The 1st one had the black and white checked look which is quite an indie rock look which comes on a lot of their fashion this is why it first caught our eye, but after thinking about it we decided against this one as it is to known as a checked design already.


The 2nd one is more of a gothic type look, which does suit our music but maybe is a bit too dark as we are rock not grunge or metal.


The 3rd choice we have is like nothing any of us have seen around in the media for anything else or any other band. When we first had this one we had the 'F' as a capital letter in the fallen, which due to the style of the font showed it up as backwards which although looked different it when made it hard to read. As we liked this font a lot though we changed the 'f' to a lowercase so it went round the light way. This is the one we chose.

The 4th one looks like spilled paint which makes it look exciting. This looks quite busy as there is a lot of 'paint' dripping down. It does look effective and matches our genre of music but we decided to chose the one above due to the fact it is easier to read from a distance so people will be able to recognise it.

Mood Board For Images

We decided it would be a good idea that we looked up other famous bands images and photos that they use to promote themselves so we get a better idea of images to take for our digi pack.

We created these as the song names as they all follow an unhappy or comtemlpative theme. As you can tell from some of them a theme to the album is based around a girl. They song names we chose had to fit the genre of our band which is why we chose to have the names slightly depressing. We put the song we have chose to make a video of 'Sowing Season'  as number 5 so it is not seen to be one of the main songs.
